Maryanne Casas-Perez

Maryanne Casas-Perez (she/her) is a regional reporter covering policy and government in Santa Clara, Sunnyvale and Cupertino for San José Spotlight with a focus on the Latino community.

She has experience reporting on free speech, protests and immigration. Previously, she reported for The Fresno Bee, GV Wire and North Coast Journal, where some of her investigative work prompted Cal Poly Humboldt administration to uphold its sustainability promises. As a student she was the editor-in-chief of El Leñador, an independent bilingual student newspaper at Cal Poly Humboldt.

She is new to the Bay Area and hopes to write about those who are historically underrepresented in media.
